iPod Access for Windows

iPod Access for Windows is the leading iPod/iPhone music and video transfer application for the PC. With iPod Access you have instant access to all the songs on your iPod or iPhone. LAN Speed Test

CloneMaster

CloneMaster will clean your hard drive of duplicate files that are just wasting space. CloneMaster searches for TRUE duplicate files (byte for byte). It does not find duplicates by filename, date, size or CRC. It does so by comparing the file data itself ensuring 100% accuracy. CloneMaster uses a special algorithm that makes the scan extremely fast. It is as fast as your drives can deliver. CloneMaster let you find duplicates in multiple paths, backups drive, drives (Hard drive, USB Stick, Jaz, ZIP, CDROM, DVD, Network drives, etc.). CloneMaster can scan files with size over 2GB. 32bit is something of the past, CloneMaster handles 64bit file size. All of the duplicate files are listed in a single list to quickly select those to delete. Using the header sort, you can easily select the old duplicates to delete. Not only can CloneMaster find duplicate files, but it also find zero length file (empty files) and empty folders. The system context menu (using the right mouse click) allow you to preview files, view the properties, delete etc. CloneMaster has the ability to Print the expanded list of duplicates by clicking on the Save As button, it will save your List of the duplicates into a .txt or HTML format, and then you can print the whole list. CloneMaster is a Multi-language (UNICODE) interface, create your own language by editing the language file directly.

Take chords up or down a half step with the application's handy lyric tools. The sole disappointments are an overly simplistic printing output and a limited 10-use trial. Anyone learning guitar or writing songs for guitar will find D'Accord Guitar Chord Dictionary a top-of-the-line application.

Traffic Travis

Traffic Travis provides a simple set of tools for monitoring the popularity and potential viewings for a particular Web site. With great instructions and an easy layout, this is a fantastic Internet research tool.

The program's interface is impressively professional, with top-notch graphic design, intuitive navigation, and helpful tutorial videos that clarify every point. Traffic Travis provides four distinct functions that allow you to collect data and do research on your selected Web site. The first one searches for popular keywords and competition, and another shows your site's ranking amongst the top four search engines. Yet another tracks point-and-click advertisements, and the fourth grades your own site for its search engine optimization. These four combined into a single easy-to-use overview of a particular Web site, one that is particularly rich in useful data. It's easy to imagine this program being especially helpful to the online endeavors of self-promoters and Internet marketers. Traffic Travis is so focused on its core functionality that it basically neglects any extras or special features. This isn't a problem, but given its performance and usefulness, we'd have liked the ability to go directly online to view competitors' sites when they're listed. Nevertheless, this is an eye-opening tool that provides an impressive collection of data.

Traffic Travis is freeware, but it requires a free online registration. It comes as a compressed file. By providing some exciting Web data in an easy-to-use environment, this program succeeds admirably, and we highly recommend it.

Adware Away

Due to a relatively small database of malware programs and lack of advanced features such as real-time protection, this antispyware application seems more like a work in progress than a finished product.

Though it quickly goes about its business, Adware Away can't identify as many offending applications as its competitors, and it fails to catch quite a few third-party programs. The main window is easy enough to understand and quite polished. You can choose the areas of your PC to scan, but the program offers no additional information on found entries and doesn't allow you to sort them. The five-day trial period also may be too short for some users to fully evaluate this application.

At the end of the day, Adware Away stands as a strictly so-so option; it won't hurt to try it out, but its bigger-name competitors offer more comprehensive levels of protection.

Phone to PC

IParmor

Iparmor will detect and kill both known and unknown trojans. This useful system-tray utility packs a lot of punch and the known virus database can be updated daily. It has a host of tools to help protect you from Internet-borne harm. Upon startup, it scans your memory for trojan-like activity and immediately disables any suspicious tasks and reports its findings. You can restore any system critical files for the next reboot. Iparmor allows you to view all remaining currently active processes, scan currently active ports, and lists those applications that are registered to start when Windows next loads.

Restoration

In our tests, this simple but effective file-recovery application worked well. Restoration doesn't have a traditional installation process; you simply click the EXE file, and the program pops up. The main window's austere design isn't likely to drive anyone wild, but since the application really only does one thing, it's a snap to understand and use. You simply specify the source drive for recovery and click the Search Deleted Files button. Restoration did a good job of resurrecting files, folders, and clusters in all of our tests, and we were impressed with both its scan and recovery speeds. On the downside, Restoration offers few extra features, though you can choose to permanently delete any items the program recovers. Still, since it delivers on its promise and is totally free, we think most home users could benefit from downloading this utility.

Core Temp

Core Temp is a compact, no fuss, small footprint, yet powerful program to monitor processor temperature and other vital information. What makes Core Temp unique is the way it works. It is capable of displaying a temperature of each individual core of every processor in your system! You can see temperature fluctuations in real time with varying workloads. Core Temp is also motherboard agnostic. All major processor manufacturers have implemented a "DTS" (Digital Thermal Sensor) in their products. The DTS provides more accurate and higher resolution temperature readings than conventional onboard thermal sensors. This feature is supported by all recent x86 processors. PDF-XChange Viewer presents users with an alternative to Adobe's Acrobat Reader. With some interesting additions, it's not hard to see this reader gaining some fans over its more popular competition.

The program's interface looks and feels remarkably like Acrobat Reader, but with more command icons along the top. Users who are familiar with viewing PDFs will find this fairly intuitive, but newcomers are advised to experiment with the options and pay attention to the Help file. Viewing PDFs is incredibly simple and should not be a problem for users. The documents look good through the reader and are easily navigated. While the program is good for simply looking at PDFs, it excels with its added features. The control panel along the top displays a long list of options for editing your PDFs. The most useful we found was the option for making bright red shapes and lines, which can be utilized to mark errors and make comments (an element that has always been one of Acrobat's best tools). Here, XChange Viewer gives users more options than its competition, allowing for more in-depth markups.

This free program imitates its competition in all the right places and gives users some extra features where it counts, combining into an excellent download option for anyone looking for an alternative to Acrobat Reader.

MB Janam Kundali

If you're not already familiar with Vedic astrology, MB Janam Kundali will not be of much use to you. The program calculates the planets' positions at a user's time of birth, providing the results in North, South, or East Indian styles. Users who know how to use this information should find this to be a useful program, but don't expect any explanation if you're a Vedic novice.

The first screen of the program is cluttered, with the Continue button tucked in among ads and text boxes advising users how they can extend their trial period beyond 30 days or purchase the program. Past that, the interface is fairly straightforward, providing simple boxes for users to enter their relevant birth information. The program offers to find the latitude and longitude of the user's birthplace, but that feature takes users to a Google results page that they must sort through to find and enter the information for themselves. The program offers the resulting birth charts in a clean, easy-to-read format. Users who purchase the program can save the charts as JPEGs. The results page suggests that users visit a free astrology message board, for analysis of the charts; this may be a useful suggestion if you don't mind wading through a site cluttered with ads.

The software will install a desktop icon, and uninstalling the program will leave a folder in the user's Program Files. Overall, the program does what it should, but the interface could be cleaner, and novice astrologers will need additional resources to interpret their results.
